National Park Network

21-12-2016 | Recomendations

You have surely heard about the National Park Network, but what is it exactly?

The National Park Network protects and manages a selection of the best examples of the Spanish Natural Heritage. This network is composed of different National Parks, institutions, the necessary relations system, legal framework, and human and material resources.

The main objective of the first Natural Parks Law, approved in 1916, is to guarantee the preservation of all these parks, make their public use easier, improve the scientific knowledge of their natural and cultural values, and encourage society to become involved in their preservation.

It’s important to know that the various National Parks of Spain, among which are Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici, Doñana, Sierra Nevada, Timanfaya, Picos de Europa, Archipelago of Cabrera and many more, have been recognized on an international level for their state of preservation, planning and natural resource management. Some of these are the Natura 2000 Network, Biosphere Reserve, RAMSAR, ISO 14001, or EMAS.

This system integrates the most representative sample of the totality of natural systems we have in our state, which allows us to achieve the best Spanish natural heritage.
